Campanet Caves — Nature Carved in Stone

Campanet Caves — Nature Carved in Stone

A peaceful underground world beneath Mallorca’s hills

Just below the olive terraces of Campanet village, the Coves de Campanet open into another realm — a maze of soft-lit chambers filled with slender stalactites, mirrored pools and the drip-echo rhythm of time itself.

Smaller and quieter than the famous Caves of Drach, these caves capture Mallorca’s natural side — intimate, unspoiled and perfect for families or travellers exploring the Tramuntana foothills.

🕰️ History & Did You Know?

The Caves of Campanet were discovered in 1945 when a local farmer followed a spring and noticed air escaping from a crack in the rock. What he found became one of Mallorca’s most beautiful natural sites — about 3 km of underground galleries (only a fraction open today). Their formations date back more than 10 million years, and scientists have found remains of the extinct Balearic goat (Myotragus balearicus).

💡 Fun fact: During quiet moments inside, guides often turn off the lights for a few seconds — revealing true darkness and the sound of dripping limestone.
