Living in Les Meravelles – Palma’s Breezy Coastal Community
Guide Guide

Les Meravelles is the quieter middle of Playa de Palma, the long sweep of white sand that runs along the bay just east of the city. It sits between the marina district of Can Pastilla and the busier resort of El Arenal, and its name, which means the wonders, fits the part of the beach that draws families and sun seekers rather than party crowds. If you want easy beach days close to Palma and the airport without the full S’Arenal nightlife scene, this is the stretch to know.

🏖️ Les Meravelles at a glance

Les Meravelles, sometimes written Las Maravillas, is one of the neighbourhoods that make up Playa de Palma alongside Can Pastilla and El Arenal. The whole bay shares the same fine white sand, shallow turquoise water and palm lined promenade, and Les Meravelles occupies the calmer central section. It is barely 7 km from central Palma and only about 4 km from the airport, which makes it one of the most convenient beach bases on the island for a short trip.

📌 Quick answer: is Les Meravelles right for you?

Choose Les Meravelles if you want a relaxed, good value beach holiday with the city and airport close by. It is calmer than El Arenal, more residential in feel than Can Pastilla, and the beach itself is excellent. It is less ideal if you are after a chic boutique scene or total seclusion, since this is a popular, well developed resort bay rather than a hidden cove.

  • Best for: families, beach lovers, longer stays, travellers who value being near the airport.
  • Less ideal for: luxury seekers, those wanting a quiet village, anyone chasing nightlife as the main event.

🌊 The beach and promenade

The beach is the whole point here, and it is a good one. Playa de Palma runs for several kilometres of soft white sand, and the Les Meravelles section gives you the same shallow, gently shelving water that makes the bay so family friendly. The seafront promenade is flat and wide, lined with palms and dotted with the numbered beach bars known locally as balnearios, which are handy landmarks for arranging where to meet. You will find sunbed and parasol rental, pedalos and the usual beach services along this stretch in season.

Because the bay faces the open water of the Bay of Palma, sunsets over the sea are a quiet highlight, and an evening stroll along the promenade with an ice cream is a local ritual through the warm months.

🍽️ Eating, drinking and things to do

The streets behind the beach are full of bars, cafes and restaurants covering everything from Spanish classics to international holiday menus, so you are never far from a meal or a cold drink. Between May and October an evening street market sets up around Les Meravelles, which is a pleasant way to spend a warm night browsing stalls after dinner. The wider Playa de Palma is famous for its lively nightlife further toward El Arenal, so you can dip into the party atmosphere when you want it and retreat to the calmer Les Meravelles end when you do not.

Beyond the beach, the location is the real asset. Central Palma with its cathedral, old town and shopping is a short bus or taxi ride away, and the marina at Can Pastilla is walkable along the front. It makes an easy base for combining beach days with city sightseeing.

June and September are the sweet spots for many visitors, with reliable sun but fewer crowds than the peak of July and August.
