Beach Guide: Platja d’Alcúdia – Mallorca’s Long Family Beach

Alcúdia’s Big, Sandy Playground by the Bay
Platja d’Alcúdia is the island’s longest continuous beach — soft sand, shallow entry, and plenty of space for families to spread out. It sits between Alcúdia and Playa de Muro, with safe swimming zones, seasonal lifeguards and a long promenade for prams and sunset walks.
From Palma Cathedral, it’s roughly 50–60 minutes by car (≈55–60 km) via Ma-13.
🏖️ Why Families Love Platja d’Alcúdia
- Gently shelving sand and wide, calm-water swimming areas.
- Seasonal lifeguards, marked swim zones and plenty of shoreline space.
- Watersports (pedalos, SUP, kayaks) plus showers and foot-wash points.
- Easy daytime plan: beach in Alcúdia, evening tapas in Alcúdia Old Town.
🎯 Things to Do at Platja d’Alcúdia
🏊 Swim & Sandcastle Central
Pick a base near a lifeguard tower for easy supervision. The bay is shallow for a long way, ideal for first swims and sand engineering.
🚣 Hire a Pedalo or SUP
On calm mornings rent a pedalo with slide or a SUP/kayak. Hug the shoreline, stay inside buoys, and return before the afternoon sea breeze kicks up chop.
🤿 Snorkel the Rocky Edges
While most of the bay is sandy, the breakwater/rocky corners hold the best clarity and fish life. Bring water shoes for pebble patches and avoid boat channels.
🚶 Long Walk to Playa de Muro
The strand runs seamlessly into Playa de Muro — a lovely shoreline walk with photo stops over pier jetties.
⛵ Boat Time from the Port
Hop coastal cruises or glass-bottom boats from the marina area when you want a break from the sand. See options in Boat Trips from Alcúdia.
🌇 Old Town Evening
After showers, head inside the medieval walls for dinner and a stroll. Plan with our Alcúdia Guide.
🍴 Where to Eat & Drink
Behind the beach you’ll find chiringuitos and casual restaurants for paella, grilled fish, pizzas and gelato. For a bigger choice, the marina zone and Alcúdia Old Town have everything from family menus to local tapas bars. Keep a late lunch plan in peak season to avoid the 13:30 rush.

🦺 Safety & Practicalities
- Seasonal lifeguards and flags: choose towers for families; obey red-flag no-swim days.
- Shade is limited on the open strand; bring a beach tent/umbrella and extra water.
- Inflatables drift fast with onshore breeze — tether near shore and supervise.
- Jellyfish days happen mid-summer; ask lifeguards or scan shoreline before swimming.
- Sunbeds/parasols rent seasonally; showers and foot-wash points along the beach.
- Boardwalk sections and many ramps ease access for buggies and wheelchairs.
